From Sunday 2nd of July to Monday 30th of October 2023
Baveno Before, An exhibition itinerary in the natural setting of the Villa Fedora Park, created thanks to the archival documents of the Baveno Autonomous Care Stay and Tourism Company, among the more or less unpublished sources used, we mention: archive papers, newspaper clippings, pages of publications and photographic plates from 1932 to 1950. The idea stems from the desire to tell the interesting stories that are hidden in the municipal historical archive, including those concerning navigation on the lake, at the time there was talk of a “fleet del Verbano”, and insights into the Baveno hydrotherapy station. There is also a focus on the tourist offer from the 1930s to the 1950s, which already at the time included the Lido Bagni (now the Lido Beach Club), a real attraction with its beach equipped with a kiosk, cabins and lifeguard, inflatables for children and dance with live orchestra.
The work was made possible thanks to the contributions of the Piedmont Region – Archives and Libraries Sector, which over the years has first supported the cataloging activity and then that of valorisation, and of the Cassa di Risparmio di Torino Foundation – Exponent tender.
The idea, the activity in the archive and the historical research, aimed at the realization of the exhibition, come from the archival company Acta Progetti srl, which then imagined the exhibition and the activities connected to it together with the fundraising company Niniqa scarl and with the Tacafile cultural association.
The event is part of the review “The stone tells 2023”, created in collaboration by the City of Baveno, the Municipality of Mergozzo and GAM with the support of the VCO Community Foundation.
